Baptism, Confirmation, & Marriage
"When can I have my child baptized? Am I able to receive confirmation? Will you do our wedding?"

Baptism
The priests and parishioners of Saint Nicholas firmly believe that baptism welcomes a new soul into the family of the church. Therefore, we prefer to perform baptisms during regular Mass times. As an outward sign of inward grace and an introduction to the body of Christ on Earth, we enjoy celebrating Mass with the newly baptized, their family, and their guests.

We are happy to reserve pews at the front so everyone can share in the joy of the occasion and take plenty of pictures. Please contact our office at
(818) 788-4486 with any additional questions, or inquire online here.

Confirmation
If you have already been baptized and would like to further your commitment to Christ by having a bishop seal you with the Holy Spirit, please contact us at (818) 788-4486 or inquire online here. A bishop's visit is always a special occasion, and we would be happy to coordinate your confirmation with the soonest visit convenient to you. We will also help you prepare for this sacrament with Christian education.

Marriage

Christian Marriage
Saint Nicholas consecrates the union of a man to a woman with the holy sacrament of marriage, inviting Christ to unite them as one flesh. The couple will be asked to meet with the rector for at least six months before the wedding date to prepare them for the responsibilities of a Christian marriage. You must also obtain your marriage license, preferably a month before your ceremony.

We have florists and musicians on staff, but you may also choose to use your own vendors. If you would like to schedule a wedding, discuss music and flowers, or use our parish hall for your reception, please contact our office at (818) 788-4486.

Wedding Receptions
Should you choose our parish hall for your reception, we do have a full kitchen including a large refrigerator. You can serve beer and wine, and you can also hire a band or DJ. The hall seats approximately 200 people. Please contact us at (818) 788-4486 for details.

Anointing of the Sick and Reconciliation
"May I ask a priest to bless me for healing? Do your priests hear confessions?"

8187884486Healing Mass
Every Wednesday (except during Lent), we hold a healing Mass at 12:15. It is an intimate low Mass (no incense, no hymns) in the side chapel, with easy entrance from the handicapped parking spaces in front of the church office. You will hear the daily readings including the Gospel, a short and engaging homily (with frequent participation from parishioners), and receive the Eucharist. You will then be blessed with oil of Unction; Father makes the sign of the cross on your forehead and both of your palms.

If you are in need of a visitation (home, hospital, hospice, etc.), please contact our office at (818)-788-4486 or inquire online
here.

Reconciliation
You've heard that "Confession is good for the soul," but when a priest hears your confession, the benefit is beyond psychological. Christ told the apostles that when they forgive the sins of others on Earth, they are forgiven in Heaven (John 20:23, Matthew 18:18). Both Father Cooper and Father Divas hear confession by appointment. You can reach Father Cooper at 818-788-4486 Ext. 11. Father Divas can also hear confession in Spanish; he can be reached at 818-788-4486 Ext. 12.

Eucharist
"Do you offer bread and wine at every mass? Do you believe it's the body of Christ?"

We Are Called to His Supper
Eucharist is celebrated at every Mass, low and high, Spanish and English, Sundays and weekdays. There is no greater honor or duty than to receive the body and blood of our Lord, Jesus Christ. Jesus instituted the rite at the Last Supper saying, "Take, eat, this is my body," and "Drink from it, all of you. This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins." (Matthew 26:26-28)

Transubstantiation
When the priest consecrates the bread and wine during the Mass, it becomes the body and blood of Christ. You must be a baptized Christian to receive, and we are happy to baptize you (see above). If you are not ready to be baptized, you are very welcome to attend Mass and receive a blessing from the priest by crossing your hands over your heart.
