The Exultation of the Cross

This past Sunday, September 14, we joyfully celebrated the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. For us Christians, the Cross holds a profound meaning: it is not a sign of shame, but of the victory of love. In it we see not only the Son of God crucified, but the God who gave Himself out of love for all — for those who were already His and also for those who did not yet know Him.

The way of the Cross remains for us a call to follow the life of the Master in love, compassion, charity, and fraternity, never looking down on our neighbor. To love fully, without social distinction, but with integrity of life. Jesus taught us to forgive even our enemies, and on the Cross He never proclaimed hatred. On the contrary, He embraced all with love and freedom, without condemnation, leaving the path open for each person to follow Him with a whole heart.

We thank God for the growth of our music group and its beautiful voices, as well as for the youth folkloric dance group Yancuic Tlitl — which in Nahuatl means “Nueva Llama” (New Flame) — led by our parishioner Flor De María Cortez. It was also a joy to see young people and children joining in, such as the family of Erica and Osmar who served at the altar with us, along with our dear Quincy, son of Yaneth.

After the Holy Mass, we had our community gathering, which takes place every second Sunday of the month. At this time we celebrate birthdays, remembrances, and special dates of our brothers and sisters who wish to share them. On this occasion, we gave special thanks for the life of Kimberly López, a member of our dance group, who celebrated her birthday. It was also a wonderful opportunity for a shared meal, lovingly prepared thanks to the generosity of the families who contributed.

We sincerely thank everyone involved. If you would like to help continue these gatherings on the second Sunday of each month, please speak with Father José.

Special congratulations to this month’s birthday celebrant and to our dear Kimberly! May God pour out many blessings upon all.

With joy and gratitude,
Fr.
