Saint Francis Day & More!

Today at St. Nicholas of Myra we lived a very special day, full of faith, joy, and community. The Sunday celebration was marked by the readings that reminded us of the importance of faith — a faith that, even if small like a mustard seed, can move mountains — and by the activities that brought us together as a parish family.

One of the most moving moments was the “blessing of the animals” in honor of Saint Francis. Among those present, Oreo, the cat of Carolina and Jesus, stood out. With his size and beauty, he drew everyone’s attention. His presence reminded us that all creation praises God and that we are called to care for it with gratitude and love.

We also shared important announcements for parish life:
• Our upcoming spiritual retreat at the monastery on October 25 already has more than 40 people signed up. It will be a time of prayer, silence, and renewal in faith.
• We joyfully announced the beginning of our youth group, which will meet every second Saturday of the month, from 4 to 7 pm. After their gathering, the youth will participate and serve at the Saturday Mass alongside Father Cooper. The first meeting ended with a small “raffle donation,” and with the money raised, pizzas will be purchased for the group.
• The second Sunday of every month will be dedicated to community celebrations such as: birthdays and other special intentions.

We are also blessed to have a Youth Folkloric Dance Group led by Flor and Francis which meets every Friday at 7 pm at the parish. All young people are invited to join! This space is an opportunity to grow in culture, and friendship while expressing joy through music and dance.

Our parish is growing little by little. Saturday Mass is celebrated at 5 pm and Sunday Mass at 9:30 am. Our various ministries are also strengthening: altar servers, the Eucharistic ministry, the offertory, the care of the altar (with the service of Kellie, Tabin, pYaneth, and Angélica), and especially the music ministry, which already includes Carlos, Manuel, the children of Érica, and more than six members offering their gifts to the Lord.

All of this is a sign that God is guiding and blessing us. Just as Oreo surprised and delighted us today, God’s grace continues to appear among us in simple and beautiful ways. The invitation is to keep walking together, with living faith and grateful hearts.

Father Jose
