This Sunday, the Gospel invites us to reflect on the narrow gate. Jesus reminds us that following the path of the Kingdom requires effort, faithfulness, and a heart open to God’s love. Entering through the narrow gate means choosing the life of the Gospel, with commitment, humility, and service.

*This Sunday we celebrate the birthdays of Kaccyanasie, Sue, and, in advance, that of our dear Father José.* Father José, with words full of gratitude, thanked everyone for the joy, kindness, and affection shown both to him and among the members of the community.

Although Father José’s birthday was celebrated early, *there were many reasons to praise God for all that our community represents in the life of the Church and of its Rector, Father Michael Cooper* Together with all of us, *they work tirelessly for the mission of Jesus in the lives and hearts of people*..

To be signs of Christ to others is our mission. May this Gospel of the narrow gate inspire us to walk together, persevering in faith and love, so that we may be light and hope in the world.

*Evangelio de Este Domingo – La Puerta Estrecha*

Este domingo, el Evangelio nos invita a reflexionar sobre la *puerta estrecha*. Jesús nos recuerda que seguir el camino del Reino requiere esfuerzo, fidelidad y un corazón abierto al amor de Dios. Entrar por la puerta estrecha significa elegir la vida del Evangelio, con compromiso, humildad y servicio.

*Este domingo celebramos el cumpleaños de Kaccyanasie, de Sue y, anticipadamente, el de nuestro querido Padre José.* El Padre José, con palabras llenas de gratitud, agradeció a todos por la alegría, la bondad y el cariño demostrados tanto hacia él como entre los miembros de la comunidad.

Here is a brief update from this past Sunday. Below is a small reflection from my homily on Saturday and Sunday, where I spoke about the fire of the Holy Spirit that should inspire us to act in a good way: to spread love, care, and compassion, and to fight against negative attitudes such as lack of faith, indifference, and injustice.

During the Mass, we also prayed for Katcyana on the occasion of her birthday, and afterwards we shared cake together. It was a truly beautiful and joyful celebration.

Quiero compartir con ustedes un breve resumen de lo vivido el pasado domingo. Homily on Lk 12:49-53)
1. Introduction
o Jesus’ words surprise us: “I came to set the earth on fire… I did not come to bring peace but division.”
o How can this be, if He is the Prince of Peace?
2. The Fire of Jesus
o Not superficial peace that hides injustice.
o Fire = Holy Spirit → purifies, enlightens, transforms.
o Burns away selfishness, lies, indifference.
3. The Challenge of the Gospel
o Fire disturbs and demands change.
Following Jesus can cause division, even within families.
o Example: Prophet Jeremiah thrown into the cistern for speaking God’s truth.
4. Encouragement from Hebrews
o We are runners in a race.
o Fix our eyes on Jesus who endured the cross.
o Don’t give up on difficulties or suffering.
5. Our Choice Today
o Lukewarm disciples? Comfortable, unchanged?
o Or disciples on fire? Burning with love, ready to carry Christ’s light.
6. Practical Application
The world needs Christians on fire with God’s love.
o Families: pray together, serve the poor, live the faith without shame.

o “Lord, set your fire in me. May I face division rather than let my faith grow cold.”

Hello, friends of Saint Nicholas,

This Sunday, the 19th Sunday in Ordinary Time, the readings guided us to have faith, courage, and to keep moving forward, with the perspective that nothing here is permanent — everything is passing. We face life’s difficulties knowing that, a little further ahead, we will find peace, but we must be guided by Jesus and His teachings of love and hope, which help us see others as brothers and sisters.

This Sunday, Saint Nicholas received a group of young dancers led by Flor, a member of our parish, who asked for a blessing for their lives, their university activities, and their dance group. We also welcomed a music group — friends of Francis — who sing and play at events elsewhere but have been with us in our parish for several consecutive weeks.

Mr. Carlos also joined the dance group this Sunday, and the young people sang with the musicians. During the offertory, four of the young people brought bread and wine to be consecrated, as well as symbolic items representing daily work: sandals, the Bible, and the Cross — symbols of the Word and of life.

At the beginning of the Mass, we offered intentions for Sue and for Father Cooper, who was at the monastery to begin his novitiate with the Oblates of the Order of Saint Benedict. At the end of Mass, we called Sue and the young people forward and invited the congregation to pray for them. We then sang “Happy Birthday” and prayed for Father Cooper.

Este domingo, el 19º domingo del Tiempo Ordinario, las lecturas nos guiaron a tener fe, valor y a seguir adelante, con la perspectiva de que nada aquí es permanente — todo es pasajero. Enfrentamos las dificultades de la vida sabiendo que, un poco más allá, encontraremos la paz, pero debemos ser guiados por Jesús y por sus enseñanzas de amor y esperanza, que nos ayudan a ver a los demás como hermanos y hermanas.

Este domingo, San Nicolás recibió a un grupo de jóvenes bailarines que pidieron una bendición para sus vidas, sus actividades universitarias y su grupo de danza, dirigido por Flor, miembro de nuestra parroquia. También recibimos a un grupo musical — amigos de Francis — que cantan y tocan en eventos fuera, pero que nos han acompañado en la parroquia durante varias semanas consecutivas.

El Sr. Carlos también se unió este domingo a nuestro grupo de danza, y los jóvenes cantaron junto con los músicos. In the Catholic *tradition*, the priest is called to be a visible sign of Christ’s presence among His people. Through the priest, the community receives the sacraments, especially the Eucharist — the source and summit of Christian life. Inspired by *St. John Mary Vianney*, the patron saint of priests, our priest serves with dedication, simplicity, and deep spirituality, shepherding God’s people with love and care.

At *St. Nicholas Parish*, a *diverse and welcoming* community, this call to service also includes *altar servers and extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion* who play an important role even outside of Mass by bringing the Eucharist to the sick and homebound. In this way, Christ’s love reaches every member of the Church.

We celebrate Holy Mass on *Saturdays at 5:00 PM* and *Sundays at 9:30 AM*. After Sunday Mass, there is always an *optional and free coffee fellowship for those who wish to interact, meet others, and grow in community.

In addition, following the Mass, there is always a *brief Bible reflection or catechesis on the Holy Mass**, in an informal setting, encouraging people (but not obliging) to deepen their faith and understanding of the liturgy.

This Sunday, we joyfully *welcomed new visitors*, invited by our parishioners *José Carlos and Maricella**. Maricella also invited some of her friends to rejoice with us in the celebration of the Lord’s Body.

At the end of the Mass, *Father Cooper blessed three crosses for the Altar Server Ministry*, to be worn by *Quincy, Mark, and Osmar*. We sincerely thank *Mrs. Yaneth, Erica, and Marisela** for encouraging their children to enter this beautiful ministry.

At St. Nicholas Parish, we are called to be *a family in Christ — celebrating, serving, and walking together*.

El Sacerdote y el Servicio en la Comunidad Parroquial de San Nicolás**

En la *tradición católica, el sacerdote es llamado a ser un signo visible de la presencia de Cristo entre el pueblo. A través de él, la comunidad recibe los sacramentos, especialmente la Eucaristía, fuente y cumbre de la vida cristiana. Inspirado en **San Juan María Vianney**, patrono de los sacerdotes, nuestro párroco sirve con dedicación, sencillez y profunda espiritualidad, guiando al pueblo de Dios con amor pastoral.

En la *Parroquia San Nicolás*, una comunidad **diversa y acogedora**, este llamado al servicio también incluye a los *monaguillos y ministros extraordinarios de la Sagrada Comunión**, quienes cumplen un papel importante fuera de la Misa al llevar la Eucaristía a los enfermos y a los que no pueden asistir presencialmente.
